University Theatre Production Photographs, 1928-1991

Abstract:  This series is comprised of photographic negatives taken of University Theatre productions from the period 1939-1970. The negatives are mainly of standard 4x5 inch dimensions and are almost entirely black and white. Negatives from specific productions are filed together in envelopes. Envelopes are arranged sequentially by University Theatre production number. The series spans productions 139 through 451. The radio programs served as a weekly forum on issues of interest to women around the world. University Theatre Production Records, 1934-1955

Abstract:  This series comprises University Theatre production reports prepared by various production crew heads. The production reports for productions staged between 1934 and 1955 include such information as names of crew members, set and prop renderings, ground plans, reports of hours worked by student crew members and their grade evaluations. They are arranged sequentially by major production number. Unfortunately, reports are missing for the following productions: #141, #144, #157, #159-162, #164-166, #175-181, #202-205, #207, #210-268, #272, #284. Reports without production numbers appended are interfiled chronologically within the series. These records correspond to the University Theatre Prompt Books (Series 20/7) and should help researchers obtain a more complete picture of a particular production. Abstract:  The University Guild was founded on June 3, 1892, at a meeting of 11 women in the home of Emma W. Rogers, wife of Northwestern University President Henry Wade Rogers (1890-1900). The Guild’s purposes, as stated in its Constitution, were: “To bring to the membership the intellectual resources of the University. To promote the interests of the University. To work for the collection and exhibition of objects of art. To advance the development and appreciation of the fine arts in the University and in Evanston.” This series occupies 20 boxes (including one half-size) and seven oversized scrapbooks. Guide to the Records of University Chaplain, James Edward Avery (1949-1999), 1960-1986

Abstract:  While attending Northwestern, James Edward Avery developed a calling toward the ministry. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Avery began studies at the Yale Divinity School. In 1973, Avery was hired as Northwestern’s interim chaplain. The following year he accepted the appointment of University Chaplain. During his tenure at Northwestern, Avery continued the development of the Alice Millar Chapel into a working congregation of regular attendants. Very popular with students, faculty, and staff, Avery often spoke at or presided over various community functions. Avery's records primarily date from the 1973-1986, during his chaplaincy.
