Abstract: This is correspondence that is related to John Cage but was not given to Northwestern by the composer. Letters are between Cage and the person in the folder's title unless otherwise indicated in the container list. Of particular interest are letters from John and Xenia Cage to friends in California that relate their experiences while living in Chicago in the early 1940s.
Acquisition Information: Most of the correspondence in this series was purchased by the music library through antiquarian dealers and other sources. Some correspondence is to or from Don Roberts, formerly the head of the Northwestern University Music Library, and deals with various aspects of the library's Cage materials.
Accruals: The Ron Thomas letters were purchased on Feb. 3, 2011.  The Wesley Wehr letter, a gift from Wehr, was transferred from the General Manuscript Collection (LTR .C35).
