Biographical/Historical Information

Leonard P. Iaquinta, Northwestern student and director of field services for the Department of Alumni Relations, was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 1945. After graduating from Kenosha High School in 1962, he entered Northwestern as part of the class of 1966. Iaquinta quickly became involved in campus groups and politics and served on the Student Senate, Men's Residence Hall Association and several student-faculty committees.

After receiving his B.S. degree from the Medill School of Journalism in 1966, he earned a Masters degree in journalism from Columbia University in New York. After Columbia, he attended the School of Journalism at the University of Wisconsin–Madison for two years.

Iaquinta worked as a journalist, educator and as a consultant before returning to Northwestern in 1977 to take up his position at alumni relations. He left the employ of the University in 1982.

Before working at Northwestern Iaquinta served as director of the Northwestern Alumni Admission Council of New York City and as coordinator of the NU Alumni Association, New York Metro Area.

As of September, 1990, Iaquinta was director of development at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.

Scope and Content

The Iaquinta papers fill eight boxes and include materials dating from 1962 through 1966 along with some undated items. The collection relflects the curriculum offered by Northwestern during the mid-1960s. It also illustrates the workings of several student-faculty committees of that era.

The collection is divided into two main headings: course materials and student group materials. Course materials, including notes, examinations and syllabi, are thorough though they contain few, if any, personal observations. They are arranged in folders alphabetically by course title.

Records of Iaquinta's extensive involvement with student groups include minutes, agendas, notes and related materials. They are arranged alphabetically by committee or organization name.

A few items relating to Iaquinta's high school career and graduate studies have been interfiled with the student group materials under the following headings: Columbia University and High School Debate Team.
