Scope and Contents

This series consists of records pertaining to general administrative matters of Northwestern University's Program in Hospital Administration. The records span the years 1945 and 1948 to 1962.

Included in the records are four files relating to employment possibilities for Program graduates, one pertaining to hospital accounting, one containing case studies in hospital administration, one including lists of Program applicants and admission inquiries, and one including fund-raising literature for the Program.

Folder 1 contains several job placement exchanges between employers, Program graduates, and the faculty of the Program. The records date from 1948 to 1962.

Folders 2, 3, and 4 also include placement exchanges (separated chronologically) between employers and officials of the Program.

Folder 5 contains lists of applicants (1957, 1958-1960) and inquiries (1959-1961) for and about admission to the Program, a few lists of students, and a small amount of correspondence concerning student candidates for admission.

Folder 6 contains papers, outlines, a copy of a speech by C. Rufus Rorem entitled "Hospital Accounting", a newspaper article concerning the publication of an accounting textbook by T. Leroy Martin, associate professor of accounting at Northwestern, and correspondence dealing with the importance and functions of hospital accounting and the role of the hospital accountant. These records span the years 1950-1956.

Folder 7 contains copies of a number of short case study problems used in the teaching of Hospital Administration courses. The dated copies fall between the years 1953 and 1959.

Folder 8 includes a brochure (1952) and two letters (1952?) soliciting contributions to the Northwestern University Program in Hospital Administration in the name of Malcolm T. MacEachern--a founder and the first director of that program.

Addition

The addition contains one file on the Program in Hospital Administration - Personnel Committee.

The files were received from the Program's office in the Graduate School of Management in July, 1976.
