Scope and Content

This series of Medical School student records fills thirty-nine record centers cartons and spans the years from 1902 through 1959 while bulking in the period following 1930. The series is divided into two subseries: records on recipients of the M.D. degree and records on students withdrawing from the Medical School prior to completing degree requirements.

Records on degree recipients are boxed in the first thirty-two cartons of the series and span the period 1902-1941. For the period 1903-1911, the records consist solely of transcript cards bearing the individual's student's name and age, address, and parents' names and a list of degrees awarded and course credits. For all other years records on students are foldered according to individual and tend to be more extensive. Folders may include: applications for admission to study, related correspondence, undergraduate transcripts, recommendations, internship reports, certificates, and Medical School transcripts.

The records on withdrawn students span the period 1902-1959 and are boxed in the final seven cartons of the series. The records include mainly the same types of documentation as the degree recipient files in addition to forms stating individuals' reasons for withdrawl.

  • Additions
Scope and Contents: These additions fill one half-size box. Included are files on M.D. degree recipients from the graduating class of 1928. Students with surnames beginning with the letters A-K are represented in these files. Each student's file typically contains a transcript of course completed at the Medical School as well as a certificate of character attesting to the student's personal character. The certificate also notes home address, names of parents or guardians, church affiliation, previous employment, and educational institutions attended. Applications for admission to the Medical School, course registration forms, and transcripts from coursework undertaken at other schools may be found scattered through the files. The files are arranged in alphabetical order according to student surname.
