Scope and Contents

This series, filling one box and spanning the years 1974-1977, consists of the records of the “Shakespeare and the Public” Conference, including correspondence, transcriptions of speeches, reports, printed Conference materials, news clippings, and financial records. The records document Conference planning, programming, expenses, and publicity. The correspondence concerns participation in the Conference, arrangements made for speakers, registration, and requests for information or copies of transcripts. A supporting NEH grant is well documented by a copy of the original grant proposal, budget information, a copy of the final project report to NEH, and related correspondence. An incomplete set of transcribed speeches given at the Conference includes transcripts in the form of rough drafts or edited versions as well as final copies. Financial information consists of requisitions, vouchers, budget statements, and expense reports. Also included are records pertaining to the concluding banquet, a reception given by the Oxford University Press in honor of Samuel Schoenbaum, Conference publicity, and printed flyers and program information.
