Abstract: These records, comprising eleven boxes, are the administrative records of Robert H. Strotz, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from September 1, 1966 to October 31, 1970. The records do not span the entire term of Strotz's deanship but fall mainly in the years from 1966 through 1968.
The records, which include correspondence and related materials, document a variety of matters involving the administration of the College and the University.
Acquisition Information: The University Archives received these records from the Dean's office of the College of Arts and Sciences on April 16, 1979 (Accession #79-73). The original accession from the College comprised fifty archival boxes. From this accession, three distinct series have been separated including the records of Dean Addison Hibbard (Series 11/1/1), Dean Simeon E. Leland (Series 11/1/2), and Dean Robert H. Strotz (Series 11/1/3).

Scope and Content

These records, comprising eleven boxes, are the administrative records of Robert H. Strotz, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences from September 1, 1966 to October 31, 1970. The records do not span the entire term of Strotz's deanship but fall mainly in the years from 1966 through 1968.The records, which include correspondence and related materials, document a variety of matters involving the administration of the College and the University. The records are arrnaged in three categories: general administrative files, faculty and staff files, and departmental files.

The general administrative files, comprising the bulk of the series, document the broad-ranging duties of the Dean; they include committee correspondence and reports, correspondence regarding research and grant proposals, and correspondence pertaining to foundation support for academic programs. Correspondence with other University administrators and/or pertaining to non-departmental programs of study are also included within the administrative files.

Faculty and staff files include Dean Strotz's correspondence with departmental chairmen, and correspondence and related materials pertaining to faculty and staff appointments, contract expirations, and terminations. Other materials pertain to faculty leaves of absence, promotions, and resignations.

The departmental files include correspondence mainly relating to the administrative affairs of College departments. This correspondence typically concerns curricular developments, course offerings, faculty, and staffing within departments. Departmental correspondence of a more routine nature is also included in these files.
