This archive includes materials from the Chicago Commission on Women’s Affairs, including the commission’s mission, procedures, minutes, first year accomplishments, and report to the mayor for 1984.
Acquisition Information: These materials were donated to the McCormick Library by Marilyn J. Carlander, appointed to chair the Chicago Commission on Women's Affairs from 1984 to 1985.

Biographical/Historical Information

The Chicago, Illinois city council established the mayor’s advisory Commission on Women’s Affairs in 1984. Appointed members represented the geographic, cultural, ethnic, racial and socio-economic diversity of the city. The purpose of the commission was to assist the mayor in the “formulation of programs, policies and legislation relating to the female population of the City of Chicago and to coordinate, advise and provide vital input and representation of women into all levels of City government.”

Scope and Content

This archive includes materials from the Chicago Commission on Women’s Affairs, including the commission’s mission, procedures, minutes, first year accomplishments, and report to the mayor for 1984.  Detailed minutes and recommendations from the Health Committee of the Commission from 1985 are also included.
