Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies

 Repository

About:

The Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies at Northwestern University is the largest separate Africana collection in existence. Its scope is as wide as the continent of Africa itself; its subject matter ranges from art, history, literature, music, science, technology and religion to communications, engineering, management and cooking.

Herskovits circulating materials are found in the Main Library, 5 East, and may be used without appointment, all hours the Main library is open. Non-circulating rare Herskovits collections may also be used in the Main Library. Please complete the Herskovits Library’s Research Consultation Form in advance to make an appointment to use archival and special collections materials between 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday – Friday. Please click here to learn more about using Herskovits materials in the Main Library and contact africana@northwestern.edu, 847-467-3084.
