Scope and Contents

The Baskett P. Mosse papers fill of two archival boxes and span the period 1942 to 1982. The Mosse Papers are comprised of one folder of biographical material, one folder of correspondence, materials from classes Mosse taught, lecture notes, and one publication.

The biographical material consists of press releases, clippings, and obituaries.

The correspondence is mainly between Mosse and faculty and students at the Medill School of Journalism.

The class files are from classes that Mosse taught at Northwestern. They contain syllabi, course outlines, student papers, lists of students, reading assignments

The bulk of the collection consists of Mosse's class lecture notes.

There is one publication, “Radio News Handbook”, written by Mosse in 1946.

Abstract

Baskett P. Mosse was a professor of broadcasting in the Medill School of Journalism from 1946 until his retirement in 1982. The Baskett P. Mosse Papers are comprised of one folder of biographical material, one folder of correspondence, materials from classes Mosse taught, lecture notes, and one publication, “Radio News Handbook”, written by Mosse in 1946.

Arrangement Note

The biographical material and correspondence are each arranged chronologically within their respective folders.

The class files are arranged by course code.

The lecture notes are arranged alphabetically by topic.

Method of Acquisition

The Baskett Mosse papers were transferred to the University Archives on October 1, 1991 by Roger Boye as Accession #91-175.

Separated Materials

Five audio tapes were separated and placed in the Northwestern University Archives audio-visual collection. Four inches of extraneous materials was discarded. Three inches of university-related material was separated and transferred to the Northwestern University Archives General Files.
