Scope and Contents

The records of the Interpretation Division of the Speech Communication Association are contained in 6 boxes, spanning the years 1952-1986, with the bulk of the records falling between 1970-1986. The records are divided into four categories: Adminstrative files, Conventions and Conferences, the book Performance of Literature in Historical Perspectives (University Press of America, 1983), and Publications.

The Administrative files contain records of committees of the division, its constitution and bylaws, and meeting minutes. The Conventions and Conferences files contain programs from the Speech Communication Association annual meetings dated 1976-85, and some material from the meetings of other associations. The files concerning Performance of Literature in Historical Perspectives contain a manuscript for the volume as well as correspondence regarding its writing and publication. Publications include copies of Spectra (1976-86) and the Newsletter of the Interpretation Division (1962-77).

The records of the Interpretation Division of the Speech Communication Association are contained in 6 boxes, spanning the years 1952-1986, with the bulk of the records falling between 1970-1986. The records consist of adminstrative files, convention and conference materials, materials related to the book Performance of Literature in Historical Perspectives (University Press of America, 1983), and the Division's publications.

Arrangement

The records are organized into four categories: adminstrative files; conventions and conferences (Speech Communication Association conventions arranged by date, and other meetings arranged by name); Performance of Literature in Historical Perspectives; and publications (arranged by title, then date).

Method of Acquisition

These records were transferred to the Northwestern University Archives on December 19, 1986, by SCA Archivist Madeline M. Keaveney, via Northwestern University Professor Carol Simpson Stern (Accession #86-271).

Separated Materials

One-half box of duplicate newsletters was separated from Box 5, October, 2001.
