John H. Hollister papers

Collection consists mainly of two items created by or belonging to John H. Hollister, MD, a founder of the medical department of Lind University, the predecessor of the Feinberg School of Medicine. The first item is a hand-illuminated book with a decorative gilt binding housed in a wooden box with decorative metal hinges and clasps. The Illinois State Medical Society gave the book to Hollister in 1907 in commemoration of fifty years of membership and was arranged and illuminated by George D. Richards. It includes a biography of Hollister and signatures of members of the Society that attended a banquet given in Hollister's honor. The second item is a group of draft manuscript pages for Hollister's book on the history of medicine and surgery in Chicago which was eventually published in 1912 as Memories of Eighty Years: Autosketches, Random Notes and Reminiscences. Pages are of various sizes and only some are continuously paginated. Collection also includes ephemera such as newspaper clippings about Hollister and programs for events related to Hollister.
