Abstract
Author Uri Orlev, born in Warsaw, Poland in 1931, moved to Israel after surviving the Warsaw Ghetto and the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. He began writing children's literature in 1976 and has published more than 30 books which have been translated into at least 36 languages. He has received various honors and awards for his writing, including the Hans Christian Andersen Author Award (1996).
