Biography

June 12, 1972, upon the recommendation of the Acting Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Chancellor recommended and the President, Provost and the Vice-president and Dean of Faculties concurred in the establishment of the Department of Art History to be effective September 1, 1972. James D. Breckenridge, Chairman of the Department of Art since the Fall term 1964-1965, was appointed Acting Chairman of the newly established department. Abstract Richard Wendorf was a professor of English and of Art History at Northwestern University and served the College of Arts and Sciences as associate dean from 1984-1987. His primary research interests involved the eighteenth century poet William Collins and the relationship between biography and portrait painting.
