Biography

The Northwestern University Transportation Center has been lauded as a leading interdisciplinary education and research institution since its inception in 1954. Its long-term goal is the improvement of domestic and international systems for the movements of materials, people, energy, and information.

Established as the Transportation Center at Northwestern University, its name was changed to the Northwestern University Transportation Center in 1972-1973.

The Transportation Center performs services for industry, government, and the public by way of research, Northwestern's graduate-level degree programs, and other educational and outreach programs. The Center also works hand-in-hand with diverse departments of the University, such as economics, engineering, marketing, finance, logistics, operations, information systems, management, the social sciences, and law. The Center also takes advantage of the expertise and insight of transportation executives who comprise its Business Advisory Committee (BAC). Such executives include senior-level executives from shipper and carrier firms, freight forwarders, trade associations, financial organizations, and consulting firms who meet semi-annually on campus. The BAC has been a major supporter of the Transportation Center since its founding.
