These photographic transparencies show Col. Robert R. McCormick, Maryland McCormick (his second wife), his associates and properties. The images include reunions of the First Division at Cantigny Farm, and the 80th birthday celebration for Weymouth Kirkland (McCormick's former law partner). Most of the images are black and white negatives, but the collection also includes a few color positive transparencies.

McCormick's personal correspondence covers the years 1920-1955, with a small part of the material dating from as early as 1914 and before. (For example, a file is included on the Colonel's trip to Russia in 1915, and also a few letters written to relatives during his school years.) The collection includes much material on the Colonel's real estate, particularly Cantigny and Boynton Beach, as well as his club memberships, his military career, his speeches...

Abstract

This series contains material related to two large tracts of land owned by Col. Robert R. McCormick: Cantigny Farm near Wheaton, Illinois, and the "experimental" farm on the Fox River west of Yorkville in Kendall County, Illinois. Most of this material is various maps and plans, but the series includes some related correspondence and other notes, and illustrations of a proposed remodeling of the house at Cantigny.

This series contains groups of photographic negatives and prints of Cantigny farm and grounds (Robert R. McCormick's estate in Wheaton, Illinois) found among the unprocessed Tribune Company Archives materials. One group of negatives shows a large event (or several similar events); another contains aerial views of the main house and immediate surroundings; a third shows a tree on the grounds being felled.
