Abstract On May 3, 1968 more than 100 undergraduate and graduate students occupied the Bursar's Office, in the first major sit-in experienced at Northwestern University. After the students' April 22nd list of demands were not met, they declared their intention to keep the office occupied until these demands were met. Abstract Collection contains the records of Northwestern University Dean of Students from 1967-1970, Roland ‘Jack’ Hinz. Hinz was Dean of Students during a takeover of the Bursar’s office by Black Northwestern students in May of 1968 to protest racial injustices on campus, which received national news coverage. The Bursar’s office sit-in was one of a series of student demonstrations throughout the United States at the end of the 1960’s protesting civil rights injustices and the war in Vietnam. ...
