Tod Huntington Francis was born September 8, 1959. After spending his youth in Indianapolis, he entered Northwestern University in 1977. Francis graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. While a student at Northwestern, he funded his tuition through extensive work in photography, taking pictures of numerous campus events typically relating to fraternities and sororities, working especially for the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Francis also worked as the photo editor for the Northwestern University Syllabus during his senior year. He did his postgraduate studies at Northwestern, taking a Master of Management degree in 1983 from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management. While remaining an avid and accomplished photographer, Francis has pursued a career in venture capitalism, specializing in areas relating to technology development and energy efficiency.
