Biography

Mattie May Gray was born on April 22, 1897 to Mr. and Mrs. William Gray of New Lisbon, Wisconsin. She transferred from the University of Wisconsin State Normal School in Oshkosh, Wisconsin to the Northwestern University School of Oratory (later the School of Speech). Mattie Gray received a diploma in 1919 and a Bachelor of Science in Oratory degree in 1926 both from Northwestern University. While at Northwestern University, she was a member of Phi Beta Sorority. She married Arthur Hannsz. She moved to Gary, Indiana in 1939 and taught at Lew Wallace School.

Abstract

The Mattie May Gray Papers date between 1907 and 1919 and fill two boxes. Most of the papers consist of course work from Northwestern University and New Lisbon High School. One folder contains handwritten copies of poems and plays.
