Biography

William S. Kerr was born in Portland, Oregon, on December 11, 1911. He attended the University of Minnesota between 1932 and 1936. From 1936 to his appointment as Northwestern's business manager in 1954, Kerr held a series of increasingly responsible positions with the Pennsylvania Railroad Company and the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. From 1942 to 1946 he held commissions with the U.S. Army Transportation Corps. William Kerr became Northwestern University's business manager on February 1, 1954. He became the vice president and business manager on October 11, 1954, remaining in this position until his retirement, August, 1980.
