Biography

Cosima Wagner was the illegitimate daughter of Franz Liszt and Countess Marie d'Agoult. She first married the German conductor, pianist and composer Hans von Bülow, then had an affair with and eventually married the German composer Richard Wagner. After Wagner's death in 1883, Cosima was director of the Bayreuth Festival for 31 years.
