Biography

Edgar Lee Masters was born in Garnett, Kansas on August 23, 1868. He died on March 5, 1950, in Melrose Park, Pennsylvania. An acclaimed and prolific poet, Masters achieved his greatest recognition for his book Spoon River Anthology (1915). He has been the subject of several works of biography and criticism.

Abstract The papers consist of a typescript draft, with minor editorial revisions and corrections, of Masters' biography of Chicago attorney Levy Mayer (1858-1922). The book, Levy Mayer and the New Industrial Era (New Haven, 1927), was Masters' first full-length biography.
