William R. Hough was born in San Francisco in 1962. He was exposed to collecting at an early age because his father, Russell Hough, had already amassed a large collection of railroad memorabilia including books, timetables, brochures and menus. He has a BA degree in Business Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a MS in Transportation from Brooklyn’s Polytechnic University.
