Biography

William R. Hough was born in San Francisco in 1962. He was exposed to collecting at an early age because his father, Russell Hough, had already amassed a large collection of railroad memorabilia including books, timetables, brochures and menus. William continued the tradition, developing an interest in transportation photography in the 1980s. He edits “The Ferroequinologist: a Journal for Students of the Iron Horse” and has worked for the New York City Transit Authority, the New York City Department of Transportation, and the Santa Clara County Valley Transportation Authority. He has a BA degree in Business Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a MS in Transportation from Brooklyn’s Polytechnic University. (see “We’d Like You To Meet..,” Railfan & Railroad, February 1999 pages 51-52. scanned copy placed with donor materials in box 1 of the collection.)
