Biography

Doreen K. (nee Conner) Miller (1922-2018) was born and raised in Royalton, Minnesota. She began dancing and involving herself in other aspects of performance at an early age. Miller ultimately earned degrees in music and music education from Northwestern University (Class of 1943) while also studying dance and drama. Throughout her life, she promoted the performing arts in various places she lived such as Texas and Minnesota by hosting workshops and creating and performing in music, drama, and dance programs. She also participated as a member of P.E.O., an international women’s organization that provides educational opportunities for other women around the world. In the 1950s, Miller turned her attention to liturgical dance, a type of dance movement incorporated into liturgies or worship services as an expression of worship. She performed with her “Ecumenical Dance Trio” and served as the Interpretive Dance Coordinator at her church, the First United Methodist Church in Stillwater, Minnesota. Miller died in 2018.
