Biography
Walter C. Kurz's career with the Chicago Tribune and the Tribune Company may be summarized briefly as follows:
- 1933: Joined the newspaper's classified advertising staff
- 1937: Transferred to the research and presentation division of the advertising department
- 1938: Joined the automobile advertising sales staff
- 1940: Joined the general advertising sales department
- 1946: Took charge of the sales development division
- 1948: Named manager of the general display department
- 1955: Named advertising manager, in charge of all divisions of the advertising department
- 1960: Named vice-president of the Tribune Company and director of sales
- 1967: Elected executive vice-president of the Tribune Company
- 1968: Named general manager of the Chicago Tribune
- 1970: On May 21, named president of the Tribune Company
- Mr. Kurz died on September 23, 1971. He was succeeded as president of the Tribune Company by Frederick A. Nichols (April 6, 1972)
