Biography

Paul F. Erwin was born in 1919 in Pocatello, Idaho. He graduated with a B.S. in education from Miami University of Ohio in 1941. He taught history and was a principal at schools in Ohio until 1946. That year he began graduate studies in history at Northwestern University, taking religion courses at the Garrett Theological Seminary as well. He received his master's degree in 1949. From 1954 through 1956, he took courses at Northwestern University toward a doctorate, but never finished. He has taught history since 1949 at Miami University and at the University of Cincinnati. He was the chair of the Department of History and Political Science at the University College division of the University of Cincinnati from 1971 until 1974.

He has written numerous industrial and business histories of various companies such as Armco Steel Corporation, Andrew Jergens Company, and the Ohio Casualty Insurance Company. He is the President of Crepho Corporation, his own publishing house which produced a school textbook entitled Round on the Ends – A Story of Ohio.

Abstract

Historian and educator Paul Erwin began graduate studies in history at Northwestern University in 1946, taking religion courses at the Garrett Theological Seminary as well. The Paul Erwin Papers are housed in three boxes and date from 1946 to 1987, although the bulk are from 1946 until 1956. The papers are comprised mainly of course materials from graduate courses taken by Erwin at Northwestern and at Garrett.
