First edition (Berlin : Ernst Siegfried Mittler und Sohn, 1890). A rare publication; an historical record of early German involvement in East Africa, containing 39 images of Zanzibar, 15 images of Bagamoyo, 12 of Dar es Salaam and 17 scenes of a military nature.

1 folio (1 folio, 83 plates + booklet (viii, 88 p.), 20 x 26 cm.) : Small oblong quarto (20 x 26 cm.), [viii], 88, with 83 half-tone plates, with printed captions in German; original green paper portfolio, with publisher’s printed boards, paper flaps; neatly rebacked and now housed in a recent green morocco-backed box, gilt lettering to spine.
