Historic Notes

One of the group shots is of particular interest as it appears to resolve a little mystery that had surrounded the authorship of a slim privately-printed book entitled, A Week in Khartoum where the author identifies herself solely as ‘Alexandra’. It shows a posed group standing in the Palace Gardens and identified as: H.H. Princess Maud of Fife, Major Lewin, Captain Clayton, E.J.F.V. and H.R.H. Princess Alexandra of Fife. She (b.1891) and her sister Maud (b.1893) were the granddaughters of Edward VII by his daughter, H.R.H. Princess Louise of Wales and her husband, the Duke of Fife.

Extent

1 album (1 album, 61 p., 25 x 30 cm.) : Quarto (25 x 30 cm.), containing 137 silver prints, some with captions, eight postcards of Khartoum, ephemera (including a party invitation from Rudolf Slatin Pasha); recent half morocco, cloth sides, gilt lettering to spine.
