Congo Free State through the stereoscope, 1907

 File — Box: 54
Identifier: 54

Scope and Contents

The cards were published by Underwood & Underwood Publishers, New York, London, Ottawa, and Kansas. On the right margin of each card is the logo for Sun Sculpture Works and Studios, Arlington, N.J., and Westwood, N.J. Each card is printed with an English caption on the recto and marked with a copyright for Underwood & Underwood dated 1907.

The captions printed on the cards almost all include an indication of the region in which they were taken, namely "Congo Free State". Presumably to save space and avoid redundancy, the inventory transcriptions do not include that information. This particular discrepancy has not been noted here for individual captions, which are presented as they appear on the cards, because it will not interfere with discovery and because the inventory captions are readily available.
