Zanzibar, 1905

Includes two envelopes of photographs and on album of photographs. The photographs in one envelope have captions handwritten on the verso and all but one have been stamped, "P. De Lord Brothers, Zanzibar". The photographs in the other envelope have German captions printed on the recto and include publishing information from Walther Dobbertin, a German photographer based in Tanzania. The album includes uncaptioned photographs of German military officers, Zanzibari officials, and local people, both in posed and casual photographs. The photographs depict a variety of social scenes at different locales, including the Sultan's palace.
