Scope and Contents
This collection consists of images of the Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea), during the occupation of that region by Italian forces (chiefly 1936-1938). Subjects depicted include camp life, military activities, roadbuilding, city views, celebrations, and native peoples.
Most of these images are original photographs, but the collection also contains a few postal cards and other commercially-produced images.

Abstract
This collection consists of images of the Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Somalia, Eritrea), during the occupation of that region by Italian forces (chiefly 1936-1938). Subjects depicted include camp life, military activities, roadbuilding, city views, celebrations, and native peoples.
Arrangement
The finding aid is organized primarily by the country depicted in the image. Within each country, arrangement is by title, caption or description.
These items come from a number of separate collections; they are housed according to the original collection, regardless of the country depicted. Each image is assigned a unique identifier consisting of an identifier for the collection (038), a sequential number for the original group, and a sequential number within the group. (For example, identifier "038-003-021" identifies the twenty-first image in the group assigned the sequential number 003.) The contents of any of the original purchase groups can be reconstructed by finding all of the images with the same group identifier.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
These materials were obtained over a period of years, most often by purchase of a vendor-assembled group of similar materials.
General
Captions on the backs of photographs have been transcribed whenever possible, but the handwriting is often difficult, and gaps remain.
