David E. Boyce Research Papers Collection
Scope and Contents
The David E. Boyce Research Papers Collection consists of 5 boxes of materials generated by Professor David Boyce while researching for his and Huw C. W. L. Williams’ book Forecasting Urban Travel : Past, Present and Future (2015). The material in the collection spans works published and/or created between 1924-2014.
The collection consists of copies of published and unpublished research, academic, and practitioner papers about travel forecasting, correspondence about research between the authors of the study and others, transcriptions from interviews with experts in the field, information on current and now defunct transportation modelling software, as well as copies of transportation software stored in CD-ROMs. The collection also contains a draft of Boyce and Williams’ book stored on a flash drive.
Published monographs used in the study were separated from the research material. Any not already held by the Transportation Library were added to the cataloged collection. Those which duplicated items already held in the Transportation Library were discarded.

Conditions Governing Access
The collection is open for research. One folder ("Combined Distribution and Assignment. Evans Thesis, 1973-1999 and undated," Box 5, Folder 4) has been restricted to protect third party privacy.
Biographical / Historical
Dr. David E. Boyce has been an adjunct professor of civil engineering at Northwestern University since 2004 after retiring from a position as director of the Urban Transportation Center at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 2003. His research is primarily focused on metropolitan transportation and land use planning and urban travel and location forecasting models. He received his PhD in 1965 from the University of Pennsylvania in Regional Science and was formerly the president of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI).
