Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Donald Haider papers are organized into: biographical information, general correspondence, publications, mayoral campaign materials (documents, photographs and related audiovisual media), newspaper and magazine clippings, and campaign artifacts.  Most of the material in the collection relates to Haider’s 1987 campaign for mayor of the City of Chicago.

Biographical information includes resumes and biographical profiles, largely documenting Haider’s academic and professional career.

A small volume of general correspondence pertains both to Haider’s mayoral campaign as well as to other topics.

Also included are a number of Haider’s academic publications arranged in chronological order.

The bulk of the collection consists of material from Haider’s participation in the 1987 Chicago mayoral campaign: documents, photographs, audiovisual materials, and artifacts.

Campaign photographs and related audiovisual media include a number of photographic prints as well as projector slides reflecting major campaign events and personalities.  Audio and video recordings of Haider’s speeches, interviews, public appearances, and the WTTW and League of Women Voters mayoral debate are documented on audio and video cassettes in multiple physical formats.  An itemization of those audiovisual records is appended to this finding aid.

Artifacts from Haider’s campaign include signs, banners, and apparel, notably, the red jackets from Haider’s "Taking it to the Streets" grassroots campaign strategy.
