Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Bear was the annual publication of the senior class of the Evanston Academy. It appeared regularly from 1907 through 1917. The Bear provides a record of student life at the Evanston Academy. In addition to detailing notable events and extracurricular activities, it serves as a chronologically-organized profile of the student body. The Bear contains portraits and brief biographies of senior class members as well as photographs of underclassmen; class officers; faculty; athletic, literary and social groups; and a variety of campus scenes.

The Bear typically includes sketches or histories of literary societies and other student organizations; essays and poems; songs; athletic records; and summaries of debate and declamation contests. The Bear sometimes includes calendars of the past year's campus events as well as humorous characterizations of students and faculty and class prophesies.
