Flyers, 1978 - 1985
Scope and Contents
This compilation of materials from a variety of sources fills five folders. The material dates from 1978 to 1986, reflecting two periods of intense activity.
The first folder contains documents, reports, and correspondence relating to calls for divestment. Of particular interest is the stapled, set of copies of articles and reports in a yellow binder on the 1978 movement, compiled by the Chicago Committee for a Free Africa.
Two folders hold clippings (some copies, some originals), primarily from Northwestern University newspapers and magazines, arranged in chronological order, reporting on: student opinions and evaluations of the state of affairs regarding South Africa at the time, pushes for the University to divest from its holdings in companies that operate in or are tied to South Africa, and divided support for this movement within the Northwestern community. Also included is a copy of the Fall, 2013, North by Northwestern magazine, which contains an article on NUDivest.
An additional folder holds flyers from student groups advertising meetings and rallies in support of divestment, pictures of students and student organizations.
The final folder contains various scans of clippings, most of which are duplicates.
