Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The John L. Ward papers are contained in 37 boxes, with material spanning the years 1976-2017. The majority of the collection consists of Ward’s published works and drafts. The records include seven series: Biographical and Early Professional Materials, Books, Articles and Journals, Speeches and Presentations, Case Studies, Digital Materials and Audiovisual Materials. All materials in the first five series are assumed to be by Ward unless described otherwise, or unless they are full issues of periodicals. The sixth and seventh series, Digital Materials and Audiovisual materials, includes author information as taken from material labels.

The Biographical and Early Professional Materials series contains papers from Ward’s work at Loyola University, published articles that quote or interview Ward, advertisements and reviews of his publications, and other personal materials such as billing notes, medical articles and a dissertation dedicated to Ward. Materials are in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The Books series includes Ward’s published books, co-authored contributions, and book chapters. Ward’s works have been translated into many languages; this series includes materials in English, Spanish, Italian, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Serbian, Arabic, Hebrew, and Thai.

The Articles and Journals series consists of Ward’s published articles, full issues of serial publications, pamphlets, and other writings (including drafts of works). This series includes materials in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Italian, and Dutch.

The Speeches and Presentations series contains Ward’s notes and drafts of talks and lectures he gave. Folder titles beginning with topics (such as Culture, Enterprising Family, etc.) reflect Ward’s original order. This series includes materials in English and Spanish. Folders often contain printouts of presentation slides.

Case Studies are made up of compiled narrative case studies by Ward, used to illustrate and teach important concepts in family business.

The Digital Materials series includes Ward’s and others’ work in flash drive, CD, and DVD formats. Creators of these works are noted in the folder titles when available.

The Audiovisual Materials series includes audiocassettes and VHS videocassettes. Creators of these works are noted in the folder titles when available.
