Description of the Addition

This addition to the Glenn Cliffe Bainum Papers spans 8 boxes and the years 1905 and 1982. These papers were separated from the John P. Paynter Collection, and It features general files, correspondence, notes, posters and photographs, a scrapbook, and files on Bainum’s death.

The collection is organized by size and type of items. The first three boxes of the collection are regular-sized papers and files on Bainum, organized alphabetically. Box 4 is alphabetically organized legal-sized documents. Boxes 5 and 6 feature a scrapbook, posters for the NU band, photographs of Bainum, music written by Bainum, and a gift given to him by the band upon his retirement. Box 7 holds a large oil portrait of Bainum, which probably hung in the band office of Bainum’s successor and protege, John P. Paynter. The collection concludes with a box of certificates and diplomas organized by date, including his high school graduation diploma dated 1905.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Materials separated from the John P. Paynter Collection (19/3/9) make up the majority of the addition, except for one artifact (a lighter) which was added as Accession No. 13-103.

Separated Materials

Separated from the collection is a book titled “Who’s Who in Music” from 1951, it features Bainum as one of thousands of notable persons in the music scene at the time. Bainum's listing was photocopied and inserted into the Biographical Materials folder. The book was discarded.
