Clippings, 1943-1946, n.d.

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 4

Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Lynn "Pappy" Waldorf papers fill five boxes with items mostly related to his career and accomplishments as a football coach.

The folders in Box 1 contain press releases and newspaper clippings of a biographical nature along with many newspaper clippings relating to his Northwestern team’s games. Also included here is an original cartoon portrait of Waldorf drawn by artist Bob Parker, circa mid-1930s; Waldorf’s formation sheets diagramming football plays; and a draft copy of Steve Cameron and John Greenburg’s biography of Waldorf, Pappy: The Gentle Bear. Cameron and Greenburg published a version of that book through Addax Publishing Group (Lenexa, Kansas) in 2000.

Three boxes in the collection each contain a scrapbook, largely featuring newspaper clippings, documenting Waldorf’s teams and coaching during the years of his Northwestern career.

Completing the collection is an autographed football presented to Waldorf at the November 4, 1966 reunion of the N Men, Northwestern University’s organization of alumni letter winners in athletics.
