The David Gordon Papers, comprising three boxes, are arranged in three categories: correspondence and related materials pertaining to the Medill School of Journalism; teaching materials for courses taught by Gordon, including course descriptions and correspondence with faculty and students as well as student papers; and materials relating to his other activities within the University.

The Medill School of Journalism correspondence, Box 1, folders 3 to 9, covers the years 1969 to 1980. It is arranged chronologically. It deals with departmental budgets, teaching loads, teaching activities, and social activities.

The Teaching materials, Box 1, folders 10 to 14, all of Box 2, and Box 3, folders 1 to 2, are arranged by course numbers and chronologically thereunder. Included are reading lists, syllabi, correspondence, assignments, and student papers.

Materials relating to other University activities, Box 3, folders 3 to 13, deal with various facets of Gordon's academic career including advising students; faculty meetings; student scholarships; and committee work, especially the Petitions Committee. There is also a transcript of a lecture delivered by Gordon at the Annual Conference of the Special Libraries Association in Montreal, Canada in 1969.
