Correspondence, 1994-07

The series consists of the administrative files of David Zarefsky acting in his capacity as dean of the Northwestern University School of Speech. The records fill 34 boxes and span the period from 1986 to 2001. The bulk of the records date between the years 1988 to 2000. Records are arranged into three groups roughly equivalent in size: correspondence files, circulation files, and subject files.

Dean Zarefsky's administrative correspondence files are arranged into folders chronologically by month. Within folders the correspondence appears in reverse chronological order. These files contain mainly copies of Zarefsky's outgoing correspondence dealing almost entirely with issues of administrative concern to the School, its faculty, students, and alumni. The circulation files contain the correspondence of both Zarefsky and other School of Speech administrators. These files, like the correspondence files, are arranged into folders chronologically by month. Within folders the correspondence, largely outgoing, again appears in reverse chronological order. Circulation files are labeled as such because they include materials open for circulation among the Dean's Office staff

Subject files contain correspondence and related materials arranged into folders according to topical headings. Strongly represented here are materials pertaining to general departmental activities within the School and to Zarefsky's official travel.
