Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The Frank Endicott papers, spanning the years 1929 through 1981 consist of biographical materials, correspondence, and publications. The bulk of the papers document the latter period of Endicott's career, 1961-1972, at Northwestern University.

The biographical materials include brief biographical sketches, numerous press releases issued by Northwestern University's Office of Public Relations, and clippings from various U.S. newspapers which reflect national interest in the "Endicott Report." Also included are complete transcriptions of three panel discussions in which Endicott took part and which were broadcast in 1949 and 1952 on Northwestern University's radio program, The Reviewing Stand.

The correspondence, 1950-1980, includes among other letters, communications between Endicott and Wendell C. Lanton (1976), an artist noted for his paintings documenting African tribal rituals. Among the correspondence is an autobiographical sketch prepared by Endicott at Lanton's request, some background material on Yoruba tribal painting sent to Endicott by Lanton, and related items.

Endicott's publications date between the years 1929 and 1979. Among them are a carbon copy of his master's thesis (1929); a carbon copy of the manuscript and a published copy of his first book (1939) based upon his doctoral dissertation; the holographic draft of an unpublished book entitled, What Students Should Know About Careers in Business (1968); a typed copy of the precis and the holographic copy (1979) of an unpublished novel entitled, Jaybird in the Ivy; and a rough draft of a book, never published, on current affairs entitled The Common Quest. There are also several articles and reports dating from 1941 to 1976 as well as unpublished notes and drafts for undated articles and speeches.
