Scope and Contents

These records of Ellen Corley, Dean of the College of Continuing Education, primarily relate to three areas of activity of the College. First are Dean Corley's correspondence and materials created in the general operation of the dean's office during her tenure as Dean from 1976 to 1985. Second, financial and/or class registration records include comprehensive data from the operations of the College since 1963. The third category comprises subject files from various courses, workshops, and other programs offered under the aegis of the College during Dean Corley's administration. These constitute the bulk of the records. Organizations in tthis third group include the Business/Professional Advertising Association, the Dental School, library management, Midwest Women and Business, and the National Society of Fundraising Executives.

The files contain a mixture of correspondence and memos, reports, class registration lists, program schedules, publicity, and financial information, working papers and other notes. Files have been relabeled to enhance access.

Abstract

These records of Ellen Corley, Dean of Northwestern University's College of Continuing Education, primarily relate to three areas of activity: Dean Corley's correspondence and materials created in the general operation of the dean's office during her tenure as Dean (1976 to 1985); financial and/or class registration records for the College since 1963; subject files from various courses, workshops, and other programs offered under the aegis of the College (the bulk of the records). The files contain a mixture of correspondence and memos, reports, class registration lists, program schedules, publicity, and financial information, working papers and other notes.

Arrangement

The files have been grouped into three categories: Dean's Office correspondence and general files; financial/registration records; courses and programs.

Records in the first category are arranged alphabetically by folder title, and chronologically within folders. Financial and registration group, summary reports are placed first, followed by various yearly and monthly reports in descending order of summarization, and lastly working files. Courses, programs, etc. have been grouped alphabetically by sponsoring organization or topic, then chronologically within. Following that are folders relating to a group of miscellaneous sponsoring organizations and/or courses, arranged chronologically.

Method of Acquisition

Transferred to University Archives on August 19, 1985 as Accession #85-170.

Separated Materials

All duplicates discarded.
