Scope and Contents
This series, comprising eighty six boxes, consists of business and production records relating to monographs published by the Northwestern University Press between 1934 and 1978. The bulk of the records date from the period of the Press's greatest activity, 1957 - 1973. The records include contracts and agreements between the Press and various authors; correspondence; requests for permission to quote from books; requests for review copies; book reviews; and bills and receipts. Five folders of material relating to the University Studies series, the Rosenthal Lectures, the African Writers Series, and Tri-Quarterly magazine precede the main body of records.

Arrangement Note
The records are arranged alphabetically by the surname of the author, editor, compiler or translator of each book published by the Press. If an author produced more than one book, separate folders were maintained for each title.
Method of Acquisition
The records of the University Press were transferred to the University Archives on September 3, 1980, February 6, 1981, May 7, 1981, and June 10, 1981 as Accessions #80-136, #81-34, #81-50, #81-51, #81-95, and #81-137.
