Scope and Contents

This series is comprised of the records of the University Senate as maintained by the Senate Secretary. The records are arranged in folders chronologically by year and in rough chronological order within each folder. The folders for each year typically contain: minutes and agenda of the University Senate (1930-1993); membership lists for the University committees (1944-1970, 1975-1981); school calendars (1955-1966); reports of the General Faculty Committee (1955/56, 1958/59-1959/60, 1962/63-1972/73, 1984-1985); BRAC (Budget and Resources Advisory Committee) Reports (1982-1985); correspondence to and from the Senate Secretaries; and various reports submitted to the Senate.

Also included is a publication The University Senate--Motions voted upon from Winter 1943 to Winter 1975, compiled by E.H. Timothy Whitten filed in Box 2 Folder 6.

An addition to the Records of the University Senate consists of one bound volume, in one box, spanning the years 1928-1959. The bulk of these records consist of minutes of and material generated by the meetings of the University Senate including minutes, repots, and memos.

Abstract

In 1928, the University moved to increase the voice of the faculty in the determination of general educational policies by replacing the University Council, originally organized in 1910, with a University Senate. This collection is comprised of records of notes maintained by the Senate Secretary. The folder for each year typically contains: minutes and agenda of the University Senate.

Arrangement Note

The records are arranged in folders chronologically by year and in rough chronological order within each folder. The volume in box 3 is arranged chronologically by the date of the meeting to which they pertain.

Method of Acquisition

These records were transferred to the University Archives on October 22, 1993 by Professor Robert J. Menges of the School of Education and Policy Studies as Accession #93-168.

The volume in box 3 was transferred to the University Archives at an unknown date.
