Records of Symposium

The records of Northwestern’s Symposium document the intellectual and political life of the Northwestern student body during a period of increasing radicalization among American college students.

The collection dates from 1961-1971 with the bulk of the material dating between 1962 and 1968. The folders are arranged chronologically by year. The folder for each year’s Symposium typically includes a descriptive brochure or pamphlet containing a list of events, a roster of the year’s speakers, the topic of discussion, and information about Symposium’s student staff. The folders also contain newspaper clippings, Northwestern University press releases, publications that accompanied Symposium, and other undated materials.
