Scope and Contents

The collection consists of an official National Collegiate Athletic Association basketball score book documenting Northwestern University men’s basketball games dating between December 2, 1972 and December 8, 1973. The score book records dates, times, and places of games; the names of Northwestern’s opponents; halftime and final scores; the names of the respective teams’ coaches; and, often, the names of referees, umpires, game scorers, and timers. Also recorded are the names of players participating in the games, their positions and jersey numbers, the number of personal fouls committed by each player, and their field goals and free throw total by each half of game. Final tabulations relating to individual scoring per game will be found in the score book as will records of aggregate team fouls by half, the number of time outs taken, and each game’s running score. Records relating to rebounding and assists are not found in this score book.

The games represented in the score book include those of Northwestern versus: Butler (December 2, 1972), DePaul (December 5, 1972), Ohio University (December 9, 1972), Valparaiso (December 16, 1972), Western Illinois (December 18, 1972), Dayton (December 22, 1972), Florida State (December 23, 1972), Marquette (December 27, 1972), Michigan State (January 6, 1973), Purdue (January 13, 1973), St. Joseph’s College of Indiana (January 16, 1973), Michigan (January 22, 1973), Wisconsin (January 27, 1973), Purdue (January 29, 1973), Indiana (February 3, 1973), Illinois (February 5, 1973), Loyola University of Chicago (February 10, 1973), Michigan (February 17, 1973), Iowa (February 19, 1973), Ohio State (February 24, 1973), Minnesota (February 26, 1973), Michigan State (March 3, 1973), Illinois (March 5, 1973), Minnesota (March 10, 1973), Rollins (December 3, 1973), Notre Dame (December 6, 1973), DePaul (December 8, 1973), and Marquette (December 18, 1973).
