Scope and Contents
This series is comprised of a miscellany of records pertaining to University real estate transactions. The records were received from the Office of the University Attorney in the Spring of 1975.
Boxes 1 through 7 contain: land deeds, warranty deeds (which usually enumerate deed restrictions), waivers of reversion, abstracts of title, and real estate sales contracts. The records are arranged alphabetically and span the period from 1897 to 1942 with the bulk concentrated in the 1920s and the 1930s. Included among the records is a copy of the deed for the University property which was sold to the City of Evanston for its water filtration plant at Sheridan Road and Lincoln Street.
Boxes 8 through 10 contain assessment bills, special assessments, and receipts for taxes paid by the University to the collectors of towns, cities, and counties in which the University owned property. These records are arranged chronologically from 1917 to 1941.
