Scope and Contents

The Jackie Kalmes Photograph Collection spans the period 1977-1983 and fills four standard boxes and one dropfront box. The collection contains mostly negatives and contact sheets, though a small selection of photographic prints and transparencies also are included.

The photographs pertain to many different subjects, though there is heavy emphasis on the performing arts, with large quantities of material documenting the activities of the Northwestern University Marching Band and the School of Speech (now School of Communication), especially the formal program of dramatics. Also included in the collection are photographs of events sponsored by Northwestern’s constituent schools, photographic documentation of visiting dignitaries and scientists, portraits, and Kalmes’ original artwork.

The collection consists of photographic prints, negatives and contact sheets depicting activities and events at Northwestern University between 1977 and 1983, taken by photographer Jackie Kalmes on behalf of the University.

Arrangement

Materials are organized by subject, with subject designations arranged in alphabetical order. Negatives, contact sheets, prints and transparencies may be found within each subject designation; keeping together the physical formats associated with Kalmes’s specific work assignments.
