The papers of Carol Lems-Dworkin represent several aspects of her varied career: pianist, musicologist, teacher, and lecturer. The bulk of the materials in the collection stem from her study of the music of Africa; and the influence of African music on African American music--including the music of Scott Joplin--and the music of the Caribbean. The collection consists of sound recordings (commercial, and non-commercial), slides (many from her travels in Africa and the Caribbean), and materials on paper (including articles and journals, texts of lectures, and reading notes).
