Records of the Lydians

This series, filling one and one-half boxes, is comprised of the surviving records of the Lydians. The records span the years from 1933 to 1973 but are quite inconsistent. They cluster mainly within the periods 1933-1938, 1946-1947, and 1959-1969. There are no materials documenting Lydian activities during the club's first twenty years. The series includes: general correspondence and reports, financial records, and social activities files.

General correspondence and reports span the years between 1933 and 1936. The subseries includes annual and special reports of Lydian officers and committees, a few membership rosters, some financial reports, club brochures, and correspondence documenting routine club business.

The financial records include bank statements, receipts, and correspondence detailing club income and expenditures for 1946 and 1947. These financial records comprise the only extant documentation of club activities for those years. Also included among the financial records are copies of annual audits for each fiscal year from 1946 to 1951. Three folders of expense vouchers, receipts, and related correspondence document club activities for 1959 to 1961 and 1965 to 1966.

The social activities files include correspondence, activities reports, events schedules, invitations to club functions, and contracts between the club and hired entertainers. These files document a variety of club-sponsored parties, receptions, outings, and other social events for the years from 1961 to 1969 and 1973.
